A História do Choro
This workshop and concert will feature the release of a new album that chronicles over 150 years of Brazil’s first national music, “choro.” Musical styles recorded include the maxixe, valsa (waltz), polca (polka), tango habanera, and lundu styles that created the genre of choro music and paralleled America’s Jazz music with Indigenous, European and African influences. Composers profiled range from Villa-Lobos, Chicquinha Gonzaga and Pixinguinha. This album was recorded in October, 2018 and be released in March of 2019.
This project is funded mostly by the San Francisco Arts Commission Individual Artist Grant for Ami Molinelli in collaboration with Rogério Souza and Edinho Gerber of Duo Violão.
